BouwBeurs 2027: An exoskeleton should adapt to the work, not the other way around
Anyone walking around a construction site can see it right away: workers are lifting, bending over, and working overhead. Despite all the attention paid to ergonomics, physically demanding work remains part of daily practice. At BouwBeurs 2027, ExoSustain will demonstrate how exoskeletons can support workers in these tasks. But not before it’s clear where that support is needed.

The company demonstrates how a complete ventilation system and thorough preparation help builders and installers during implementation.

SharpTools
Exhibitor news
At BouwBeurs 2027, SharpTools will demonstrate why grinding is more sustainable than replacement
In the construction industry, sustainability often revolves around material selection, energy consumption, and more efficient construction methods. SharpTools also focuses on something that happens every day on virtually every construction site: tools and saw blades are replaced as soon as they become dull. The tool brand wants to change that habit by making maintenance a matter of course again.

Schöck Netherlands Brings Proven Balcony Technology to the Facade at the BouwBeurs
Modern architecture places increasingly high demands on facades, both aesthetically and technically. Any deviation is immediately visible. Schöck Netherlands, a specialist in thermal breaks, introduces a solution that addresses common challenges in facade fastening.

The Stepstone social housing tower is behind The Pulse, but deserves a spot at the front
Sometimes the greatest achievement is hidden in the background. Along the A10, it’s mainly The Pulse of Amsterdam that draws attention. Stepstone, the residential tower behind it—featuring 216 affordable starter homes in a prime location—is much less conspicuous. Yet that project is particularly relevant right now.

Proportion of Women in the Energy Sector Declines: “It’s already going wrong in the job posting: 40-hour workweek, Class B driver’s license”
The proportion of women in the construction and engineering sectors must increase rapidly if we are to meet our energy and sustainability goals. That’s according to Martine Witteveen, who works toward this goal every day as a program manager at 75inQ. “In the Netherlands, that figure has dropped to 15 percent, which is lower than the European average. So it’s all hands on deck.”
Is straw the building material of the future? “As long as we drink beer, yes.”

Is straw the building material of the future? “As long as we drink beer, yes.”
Straw is gaining popularity as a building material. A tower is being built in Eindhoven, and with a bit of luck, the Netherlands will have its own factory by 2028. The latter is good for the environmental balance sheet. “Actually, that’s nonsense,” says Jan Walrecht, founding partner of Strotec. “CO2 doesn’t stop at the border.”

Barli’s secret: “From the moment our culture changed, we started growing”
Our industry is changing rapidly. Digitalization, sustainability, labor shortages, mergers and acquisitions, and a new generation entering the workforce. We need to start working differently in this industry. But working differently requires more than just a new strategy or a different process. It requires a change in behavior.
50 housing factories are ready to go, but why aren’t we building faster?

50 housing factories are ready to go, but why aren’t we building faster?
The Netherlands is investing millions to accelerate housing construction. But part of the solution is already in place: more than fifty Dutch housing factories. Together, they can produce about 35,000 homes annually. If there is sufficient sustained demand, this figure could rise to 50,000 through the use of shift work.

The building materials lobby is acting unwisely
The established Dutch building materials industry seems to be putting more effort into protecting its existing, CO₂-intensive products and production processes than into innovating them.
Senior official warns on the eve of budget cuts: “Shutting down the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning, and the Environment wasn’t surprising, but we should have kept more reserves.”

Senior official warns on the eve of budget cuts: “Shutting down the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning, and the Environment wasn’t surprising, but we should have kept more reserves.”
The decision to dismantle the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning, and the Environment (VROM) in 2010 was “not an unusual move,” but it was one that was implemented “too abruptly.” That’s according to outgoing senior civil servant Chris Kuijpers in the latest episode of the Bureau Stoer podcast. “We should have kept more of a financial cushion.”

Onno Dwars in Helder!: The construction industry must dare to embrace problems
The construction industry shouldn’t put off tackling problems, but should instead dare to embrace them. That’s the view of Onno Dwars, CEO of Ballast Nedam Development and chairman of the Dutch Green Building Council. According to him, climate change, the housing shortage, grid congestion, and rising healthcare costs together form a single design challenge for the living environment of tomorrow.

“Seniors are suffering from homes that are too hot: install sunshades first, then air conditioning or a heat pump”
There needs to be a national subsidy for sunshades. And when making existing homes more sustainable, standard measures must be taken to combat summer heat. This ensures a healthy indoor climate and reduces the need for active cooling, according to the Overheating Coalition.
