At the BouwBeurs, 4C will demonstrate how 3D scanning in the construction industry goes far beyond simply capturing a space or object. Based in Emmen, the company provides 3D solutions to help organizations digitally survey buildings, installations, structures, and complex components. Rather than relying on a single, fixed scanner, the company uses the technology that best suits each situation.

“The real power lies in combining different types of 3D scanners within a single project,” says Rogier Rappard, owner of 4C. “A laser scanner is ideal for efficiently capturing large spaces, facades, and structures, while a handheld scanner can capture much more detail of, for example, joints, ornamentation, technical installations, or hard-to-reach parts.”

This combination makes it possible to bring together different scales into a single digital model. For example, an entire building or an industrial environment can be surveyed and then supplemented on-site with highly detailed scans. The 3D data can then be processed into point clouds, meshes, dimensional data, inspection data, or a foundation for CAD and BIM workflows.

The applications within the construction industry are wide-ranging. 3D scanning is used for renovation and remodeling, as-built documentation, prefabrication preparation, dimensional verification, quality inspection, reverse engineering, and documentation of existing conditions. Even for complex technical spaces or projects where drawings are missing or no longer up to date, an accurate digital survey provides a practical starting point.

According to Rappard, the added value lies not only in the equipment, but above all in choosing the right combination of techniques. “Not every project requires the same scanner or the same level of accuracy. By combining different systems, speed, range, and level of detail can be much better aligned.”

4C is participating in BouwBeurs to let visitors experience how 3D scanning can be used in practice as a bridge between the existing reality and digital design, verification, and construction.
