In the construction industry, sustainability often revolves around material selection, energy consumption, and more efficient construction methods. SharpTools also focuses on something that happens every day on virtually every construction site: tools and saw blades are replaced as soon as they become dull. The tool brand aims to change that habit by making maintenance the norm again.
SharpTools was founded in 2024 based on a simple idea: good tools don’t have to be thrown away just because they lose their sharpness. The company handles product development in-house and invests heavily in it to continuously develop new, sustainable, and innovative sharpening tools.
“A saw blade doesn’t have to be written off as soon as it gets dull. If you can resharpen it, you extend its lifespan and prevent unnecessary waste,” says Tycho Elings, co-founder of SharpTools. “For professionals, sustainability must above all be practical. Fewer replacements mean less material consumption, less waste, and lower costs.”
One example is the SharpTool 2.0, a sharpener for oscillating multi-tool blades that is powered by a standard drill. It can sharpen a dull blade in less than a minute, and according to SharpTools, the blade can then perform up to twenty times more cutting work. The sharpening head itself is also replaceable, so the entire product does not have to be discarded. In doing so, the company touches on a broader theme in the construction industry: it’s not just large building materials, but also the many consumables used daily that determine how much waste and raw materials a project requires.
At BouwBeurs 2027, SharpTools will also introduce new products. The company is keeping the details under wraps for now, but the direction is clear: the ability to sharpen more consumables directly on-site, ensuring the job isn’t delayed and the lifespan of tools is extended in a sustainable way. Visitors can experience for themselves at the booth just how quickly a dull blade can be sharpened.
“Ultimately, the best way to save money is by not having to buy the product again,” says Elings. “That’s exactly what SharpTools is committed to: throwing away less, maintaining more, and staying sharp longer.”
