Electrification is also a concern in road construction, due to environmental and regulatory reasons. But asphalting requires heavy equipment, such as asphalt rollers, spreaders and sand track rollers. They run intensively and thus cause a lot of noise pollution and CO2 emissions. You can't just make them electric.
Montrac Industries, in partnership with Intercel, has managed to do just that. Together, they made an entire set of these machines electric by equipping them with a universal battery system. This allows all the equipment to run on the same batteries that are easily interchangeable. Because of the interchangeable batteries, they therefore do not all need to be on a charger and will last all day, as far as the supply of charged batteries goes.
Customized electric powertrain
Motrac Industries conducted a comprehensive feasibility study of power flows and developed a custom electric drive train. Intercel provided a universal battery system that can be easily interchanged or used in multiple machines. This modular solution allows future electrically powered road construction machines to be equipped with the same battery system, increasing flexibility and efficiency.
Start with a feasibility study
More and more companies are considering electrification as a serious alternative to conventional drives. Technological developments are advancing rapidly, and what seems unfeasible today may be the norm tomorrow. Motrac Industries advises companies to commission a feasibility study so they can make an educated decision about the electrification of their systems or machines.
