What are the innovations and novelties in the construction industry?
The BouwBeurs Awards show you what every construction specialist can't ignore in the coming year.
The awards were established by the BouwBeurs organizers to draw more attention to innovations in the industry during the trade show.
This year’s edition once again features three categories and, of course, a People’s Choice Award.
For decades, the BouwBeurs Awards have served as a biennial recognition of industry professionals who drive innovation. Exhibitors have until October 31, 2026, to submit their innovations. After that, the jury will deliberate to select 9 nominations. The 3 category winners will be announced during the opening of BouwBeurs 2027. In addition, one nominee will win the People’s Choice Award.
Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about the three categories, the jury, the entry requirements, and the judging process.
Products, services, and smart concepts that contribute in the short term to making the construction industry circular and promoting sustainability in the built environment. The entries contribute to a better planet by reducing environmental and climate impacts, including through CO₂ emission reductions and the efficient use of raw materials. They address the demand for sustainable, healthy, and responsible solutions in both new construction and renovation. In addition, they offer the traditional construction sector concrete tools to innovate, adapt, and remain future-proof.
Technologies that allow smarter and more efficient construction than traditional construction methods. Digitisation and/or industrialisation can save more time and therefore money, making a construction process faster and smoother. Moreover, some smart technologies also require less manpower. With this, it also helps solve other challenges such as personnel shortages.
This category focuses on the workplace. It’s the domain of the people who actually do the work. Products, services, or concepts that lighten the workload, simplify tasks, make work safer, and make the job more appealing to skilled professionals. A practical category in which the well-being and comfort of skilled professionals come first. Think of tools and professional methods. Smart solutions that benefit the people on the job site—the very people we so desperately need.
To what extent does your entry stand out in terms of innovation compared to similar products on the market? Please explain how this is evident. Provide clear specifications regarding the launch date and method, the demonstrable performance, and the legal requirements that will apply to the entry. In addition, the entrant should clearly explain how the entry differs from comparable products or predecessors of the innovations.
What industry challenge does the entry address? Is this challenge relevant? The entrant outlines the context in which the entry was developed. The jury evaluates the entry based on its relevance and focus on providing a solution.
How does it work? What can you tell us about the practical applicability of your entry? And what challenge in the market does the product address? How should the entry be implemented? Can and may the entry be implemented in the Netherlands? What is its scalability? Can the concept, product, or initiative grow efficiently and be implemented on a larger scale without compromising quality, effectiveness, or sustainability?
How does the entry impact the people who use, experience, or apply it? Why does this entry currently provide answers to questions that exist in society or the industry?
How sustainable is your entry? How has the reduction of environmental impact been addressed through material selection, efficient use of raw materials and energy, and recyclability during the production, use, and waste disposal phases of the product or system? And more importantly: how does the entry fit into the context of the construction and installation industry, where reducing energy consumption and the responsible treatment of people and the planet are top priorities? The entrant must provide quantified data that supports the sustainability claim.
What are the cost savings for the user? How does the entry benefit the industry, the installer, or the user in terms of hard-and-fast returns? What do we achieve with it? And, not least: what are the costs of the entry, and how do they compare to the returns?
